Health department alert regarding jaundice in Jyolikot, Director gave 9 strict instructions.

Nainital, September 11, 2026. In view of the increasing cases of jaundice and waterborne diseases in the Jyolikot area, the Health Department has intensified surveillance and prevention. Dr. KK Aggarwal, Director of Medical Health and Family Welfare, Kumaon Division, along with Chief Medical Officer, Nainital, and Joint Director, Dr. Yogesh Chandra Purohit, conducted a field inspection of the Primary Health Center Type-A Jyolikot and the affected areas.
During the inspection, the Director directed action to be taken by identifying affected areas based on high, medium, and low risk . Intensive monitoring and drinking water sampling were prioritized in high-risk areas, while regular monitoring and vigilance were maintained in medium and low-risk areas.
He directed the chlorination of drinking water sources and the awareness of preventing diseases caused by contaminated water. People will be encouraged to drink water after boiling it for 15 minutes and letting it cool, to wash their hands with soap, and to avoid waterlogging around their homes.
The Director directed the RRT/DIORT teams to be on alert and to take immediate action by dispatching a team of epidemiologists, physicians, and pathologists to the site upon receiving information about a cluster. They also directed the line-listing of all jaundice patients and the maintenance of separate records for new and old patients.
Government and private healthcare institutions have been instructed to ensure daily reporting of cases on the IHIP-IDSP portal . Hospitals have been asked to set up dedicated clinics or desks for the diagnosis and treatment of jaundice/liver disease and send daily reports to the Director’s Office and the CMO, Nainital.
Instructions were also given to maintain adequate availability of essential medicines like ORS, B-Complex, Multivitamin, IV Fluids, Livetonic and Hepamerz in the health centres.
In coordination with the Water Institute, regular sampling of drinking water sources, laboratory testing, and superchlorination according to established standards were ordered. Instructions were also given to conduct cleanliness campaigns in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation, Panchayati Raj, and Village Development Committees.
The Director also mandated daily reporting of jaundice and waterborne diseases in all private hospitals and clinics in the Haldwani area and asked the CMO, Nainital, to immediately submit a detailed report on the actions taken so far and the upcoming action plan. In the meeting with officials from the Water Institute, necessary guidelines were also given regarding the cleanliness of drinking water sources, chlorination, zonal segmentation, sampling, and monitoring.
